    New Microsoft Project Server 2010 Training Course (in development)

     

    After a few weeks of planning and designing…
    I finally think I have finalized the outline for my Deploying and Managing Microsoft Office Project Server 2010 (Beta) course smile_regular

    Here’s a brief outline of the 5 day course:

    • Module 1: Planning to Deploy Project Server 2010 provides the background knowledge to effectively plan a Project Server 2010 deployment. It will also detail “What’s New” with Project Server 2010, the logical and physical architecture, planning for high availability and scalability, understanding the SharePoint site structure and hardware & software requirements.

    • Module 2: Installing and Configuring Web Services provides information on how to install and configure IIS 7.5 web services. It will also detail creating the necessary service accounts, installing and configuring the software components and web services settings.

    • Module 3: Installing and Configuring Microsoft SQL Server 2008 describes installing and configuring Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Analysis Services. It will also explain the concepts of OLAP cubes and the requirements to create them.

    • Module 4: Deploying SharePoint and Project Server 2010 provides information on how to install SharePoint and Project Server 2007 in a stand-alone, single server and multi server farm configuration.

    • Module 5: Configuring Project Server 2010 explains how to configure Project Server 2010 in a stand-alone, single server and multi server farm configuration. It also covers configuring Project Server 2007 in an extranet scenario using Forms Authentication.

    • Module 6: Configuring Project Server Clients explains how to configure Project Server clients: Project Professional and Project Web Access. It explores what is new with the Project 2010 clients, creating Project Server profiles and configuring Exchange Server integration.

    • Module 7: Configuring Project Server Settings details how to configure the enterprise data settings, operational policies and Project Server reporting. It covers creating and configuring enterprise custom fields, calendars, Active Directory synchronization and Project Server reporting.

    • Module 8: Configuring Time and Task Management provides information how to configure and manage time and task management. It details how time and task reporting works, what are financial and timesheet periods and how to configure them.

    • Module 9: Configuring and Managing Project Server Security explains how Project Server security works. It describes how to configure and manage Project Server security including: creating Project Server security users, groups and categories and configuring Project Server permissions.

    • Module 10: Configuring Demand Management and Portfolio Analysis describes how to configure and manage Demand Management and Portfolio Analysis. It details how Demand Management works, defining business drivers, project lifecycle and testing the configuration by creating project proposals, analyses and prioritizing projects and committing selection decisions.

    • Module 11: Configuring Project Workspaces explains how to configure and manage Project workspaces. It also covers how Project Workspaces work, creating a custom Project Workspace site template, adding and modifying web parts.

    • Module 12: Project Server Administrative Tasks describes the administrative tasks that a Project Server Administrator will be required to know. It details importing resources and projects, configuring and building the OLAP cube, reviewing and creating views and performing disaster recovery tasks.

    • Module 13: Upgrading and Migrating to Project Server 2010 explains how to upgrade and migrate to Project Server 2010. It details how to upgrade from Project Server 2007 single and multi server farms using In-Place and DB-Attach upgrade methods and how to migrate from Project Server 2003.
